The Rowdyruff Boys are a group of transhuman boys who are the male counterparts of the Powerpuff Girls. They were created by Mojo Jojo with ingredients that are the opposite ones used to make the Powerpuff Girls, so they could beat them[1]. They were eventually destroyed at the end of the episode. At some point, they were resurrected by the Sky Police and Men In Black[2] and trained by Dr. Brisbaine and I.M. Weasel[3] for special assignements that require their transhuman abilities.

History

After yet another defeat at the hands of the Powerpuff Girls, Mojo Jojo came with the idea to make a copy of the girls, clones that would match their strength but were their polar opposites. Being genius chemist, Mojo Jojo managed to device a formula on how to create his copies with the use of armpit hair, snails and dog tail as replacements for "sugar, spice and everything nice". The toilet in its cell appeared to be contaminated with Chemical X, enough for a reactions that led to the creation of the RowdyRuff Boys. During the first encounters with the Powerpuff Girls, the boys proved to be their physical superiors but with the help of Sarah Bellum, the girls managed to uncover the weakness of the boys, a kiss. When they kissed them however, the emotional shock seemed too strong and due to the impure chemical X used in their origin, they exploded.

Personalities

When they were first introduced, the personality of the Rowdyruff Boys were very similar, as their only goal was to defeat the Powerpuff Girls and cause havoc. When they were revived by Him, their personalities began to differ, although they still strive to have fun while causing destructive havoc and destroying the girls. They are extremely violent and confrontational to the point that they're often fighting even one another with very little provocation at all. They like to be gross and insult others like putting slugs, spitting, cracking bones, throw scabs, etc. In the comic, they seem to have been tamed albeit still harboring hatred for the girls, as shown during their training session with XJ-9.

Powers

Since the Rowdyruff Boys are male counterparts to the Powerpuff Girls, they have the same abilities as the girls, but are stronger. Not only do they have higher tolerance to damage than the girls, but they are also almost impossible to defeat head on. They possess the powers of:

  • Flight
  • Near-Invunerablility
  • Endurance
  • Stamina
  • Durability (they are able to withstand more damage than the girls)
  • Strength (they are stronger)
  • Superspeed
  • Laser Vision
  • Energy Projection
  • X-ray Vision

While all of the boys have the basic abilities of the girls like flight (even faster and with kick in the afterburners that generate smoke that make the target unable to see or breathe). Each boy has an ability, for example, Boomer has the power to create a baseball bat out of electric energy which can be used to deflect projectiles, such as Bubbles's electricity balls. And Butch has displayed the ability to create a Energy Shield which absorbs Buttercup's electric thunder claps. Both abilities have not appeared since '", and Brick is the only one who had not portrayed his own unique ability. However, in "The Boys are Back in Town", they revealed that they could use two powerful and unique team manuvers, that is equivalent to the "Powerpuff Megablast" (Girls are blue in color, boys are green in color, their powers are equal that deflect each other). Another one is shooting a 3-in-1 sonic wave that make the target blow away. These techniques have not been specifically named and, like the Boys' individual powers, it has not been seen since "The Boys are Back in Town".

They also have a team manuver called "Ballistic Barrage" (The boys jump down to ground level and rush toward the girls. They leap from building to building, zigzagging down the street, and fly high before dive-bombing their targets. All three girls are subjected to a merciless battering, which does not end until they have been drilled into the pavement. Then the boys jump out of the way.) in the first appearence.

Like the Powerpuff Girls and their comic-book counterparts, it is unknown whether or not if all of their powers/abilities will be shown or if their current powers will be reduced compared to their cartoon counterparts.

Weaknesses

The one big difference between the Powerpuff Girls and the Rowdyruff Boys are their weaknesses. Though the Powerpuff Girls have not been defeated before, they don't have any glaring weaknesses except when they are divided or disagreed on a certain matter. The Rowdyruff Boys, on the other hand, have several significant weaknesses that they all share. Due to the boys' being having higher tolerance for damage than the girls, they are almost impossible to defeat in head-on combat, this is proven in their first encounter where they were the only ones that could defeat the Powerpuff girls in a fair fight, these weaknesses must constantly be exploited by the Powerpuff Girls.

Trivia

  • BeeAre confirmed that there would be no Powerpuff Girls x Rowdyruff Boys pairings.[4]
  • Their hairstyles in Powerpuff Girls Doujinshi seems to be a mix of the two designs (their original design and the revamped design after their resurrection) from Powerpuff girls.
    • Brick's original design had a fringe, but not ponytail as the revamped design lost the fringe but had a pony tail instead. The Doujinshi version has both.
    • Butch design is clearly based on the first design, being a bowl cut, instead of the spiked hair he had after his resurrection.
    • Due to the slight alternation between Boomer's original and revamped design, it is impossible to say if he was based on the first, the second or both designs.
  • In Powerpuff Girls, The boys were resurrected by HIM in another attempt to defeat the Powerpuff Girls, and disables them from being destroyed by kisses. This seems to be retcon in Powerpuff Girls Doujinshi, as Brick mentioned that it was it was the Sky Police and the Men In Black who found bits of them and brought them back.
    • Alternatively, they could be destroyed a second time, prior to the girls move to Megaville.
